Kilts for all reasons

Absolutely not!! No way!! Never!! I am sure you will be doing that yourself, or you should be.

The kilt I gave up on was in Buchanan AC, but I subsequently had a London kiltmaker build it for me. Fortunately, I had not made any cuts in the fabric - it was only pinned and basted - so he was able to salvage the full 8 yards and start over again.

Nice job on the box pleats..I have seen too many that are misaligned which makes the whole kilt look shoddy.

Does your sporran bite or is it well trained?

Short answer: All my sporrans are more docile that I am, although both of us tend to scare the smallest of children.

Longer answer: Right now the sporran has the tail, or the back end, of the badger on the flap. Things could get messy, but not from biting. For that, you'll have to wait until I get the eyes and jawset glued into the mask and replace the back end with the front end of the animal. But, after that, this sporran is destined to be a gift to an ex-military kilt-wearing friend.

These are some of my next sporran projects before highland games season.

I like the idea of the tail as the flap for the sporran...I thought it would be funny to have a skunk sporran that you lifted the tail to open the pouch.

This is the pic from which my avatar is taken. This skunk sporran is my favorite; it goes well with most of my kilts. Kids love to ask about it. This sporran is not symetrical, as most sporrans are, and the tail has a definite swing as I walk. Kilt swings in back, sporran swings in front... This sporran is fully functional, as well. Both the mask and the tail are sewn to the flap, and have to be raised to access the sizable bag inside. I'll be making more this spring.

Here I am wearing it at a wedding in Reno, Nevada. The groom is in the middle; both he and his wife are in SASS, a cowboy shooting club.

I'd like to hear more about what's involved in preparing the mask. When you do this could you start a thread about it. I'm playing with some thoughts of my own.
