    Question NOT Royal Stewart?

See, now this is why I love this forum. Because there's always watchdogs like Bob C. and GlassMan who aren't afraid to be critical. And maybe they are right. After all, I'm no expert. But I still DO think its Royal Stewart. For one thing, I've got the hat which is an exact match. I got it in a store called Edinburgh House. They had the hats in just two tartans. While neither was labelled, I took them to be Black Watch and Royal Stewart. What else would they stock if they wanted a couple of "universal" tartans to sell to tourists? Secondly, that picture doesn't pick up all the colours. Under a good light I can see red, white, yellow, black and blue.

On the other hand it wouldn't break my heart if it were something else. I guess until an expert chimes in here we will have to let it be just another of the mysteries in my closet. But thanks for the input, guys.

Here's the Royal Stewart swatch from the STA site. Sorry about the huge size. How does this compare to the actual kilt?

I have a Question for you kilt makers is that the inside or the outside of the tartan? I think it is the inside? or is the pic reversed?

I know!! I know!!! - That does look like the inside view - the lines of the twill should run from top right to bottom left on the right side of the fabric as it is worn.

That is assuming that the tartan pic is in the orientation as it is usually worn - that is with the selvage top and bottom of the picture.

If it is rotated 90 degrees from how it is worn, then it is the right side.

I think that what the rest of us needed was a close-up of the kilt. On my monitor I just can't see all the colors on the kilt photo.
