I personally find these people repugnant. I don't even want to guess what makes them tick. However, Kevin is right. This man willl have his day in court and the justice system will render its verdict. I can only guess, but I suspect this man has ruined his career, his reputation, and perhaps his marriage, family, and home. (Another form of self destruction.) Distributing this crap is bad enough, but it's the monsters that make the stuff that should be shut away forever. I doesn't sound like Smith is charged with that.

I have a lot of friends in law enforcment. I've learned that convicted pedophiles are usually placed in solitery confinment for their own protection. They are at the very bottom of the prison hierachy and are targeted by everyone.

The accusation alone has probably done that for him, whether he's found guilty or not.

I agree with this one. I'm surprised how some people have bounced back from similar career ending moments. I mean who would have thought Rob Lowe would have had any career after the 88 Democratic convention?
As for reflecting on kilt wearers, if it was the character he was playing on TV, I think people are smart enough to separate the person from their character...well most of the time...god teh stories I could tell about the Daytime Emmys....

Sadly, that is often the case. There are numerous examples of media crucifixion where the victim turned out to be innocent, but since innocence isn't news the subject is left twisting in the wind, having served his purpose of gaining attention for the news 'service'. Again, it is enough to gag a maggot, yet the sheep continue to not only put up with it, but seemingly approve of it.

I couldn't agree more, Freedomlover, a celebrity's innocence just isn't news, so no doubt if he's found guilty we'll hear more about what sort of sentence he gets, but if he's innocent we'll never read a word of it and he'll be permanently stigmatised by the publicity at the time he was charged. There is a lot could be said in favour of preserving the anonymity of the accused until he's found guilty.

Actually if he's found innocent, there will be news stories on what the prosecution did wrong to allow him to go free....

That is a sad commentary on the state of society. Sad, but true.

What sad news, I only recently found (thru this site) the adverts and really enjoyed them.
If the guy is guilty then I feel sorry for him. Something must have gone haywire is his thinking.
As I read this thread I have just finished doing a sermon on the beauty of marriage...then I read this.
You may not agree with me, I feel for the guy somehow, he may have had a happy marriage once and now he's lost his way. Of course, I'm not unaware of the enormous damage done to the children in cases of child abuse of this kind.
