i think the answer has to be yes..
I've only recently got my first kilt, and all my friends are not at all surprised at it, perahps only that I didn;t have it before! so I think the kilt is definately me!!
the idea of "traditional, but not conformist" fit me very well!

I think “non-conformist” sums it up pretty well for me.
I’ve always done things differently.
In High School, everyone had long hair, so I cut mine short. When shorter hair came into fashion, I let mine grow shoulder length. Now I shave my head.
My Dad and brother were in the Army, so I join the Marines.
I want a bicycle to get in shape, and I get a recumbent.
I’m an Agnostic, Conservative Republican, Environmentalist, Nudist, Concealed Weapons Permit Holder. (Those last two are hard to coordinate, sometimes.)
The list goes on and on. Wearing a Kilt is one of the least unusual things I do.
I'm also usually very shy, and I can’t believe I just wrote all that.

Not sure its a sign of the true me, but I have always done things to satisfy myself and did not care what others thought. So to that extent, the kilt reflects my disregard for what others think.

LOL.. i like your style. I am sure being a conservative republican and an environmentalist is harder than concealing weapons on your person. Shy nudist as well?

It's not a sign of who I am, but of my family's heritage, personal style, and an advertisement to the kinds of people I'd probably enjoy talking to- two facets to my personality, but by no means the whole shootin' match.

Come on Ian, you know by know that the only things that belong in closets are clothes, preferably kilts hung nicely on the great wooden kilt hangers supplied by Nick @ kiltstore.net !!!
