I was told that the purpose of the little pouch was for the fighter's mouthpiece, as the kilt is removed before the fight. Since it was requested so much, it became a Sportkilt standard. Sportkilt has a kilt "Irish Revenge" which is marketed as Jens Pulver's kilt. Jens was a champ lightweight.

But that is just what I was told. I am not claiming it to be the truth.

I do have two sport kilts; a poly is for really hot humid days, and is the former team tartan, and a cotton, which serves one purpose...loaner to my rowdy friends who want to try out a kilt.
I've seen a few UFC guys wearing them too, Marcus the Irish Handgrenade from the Ultimate Fighter tv show, and Tim Sylvia former UFC heavyweight champ has worn one during his entrance.
