Starting on my first kilt

I've been finished with it for about two weeks now, but have been too lazy to get pictures, so I've kept quiet...until now.

So here it is, my Stuart of Bute 8 yard knife pleated kilt, pleated to the white stripe:






I need to press some of the pleats again, but otherwise, I'm very happy with it. It actually fits better than my Scottish-made kilt, but that's defintely due to a bit of weight loss. The left apron edge does like to curl forward a bit and open the deep pleat up, but it only seems to bother me; my wife, who has a good eye for such things, didn't even notice it until I mentioned it.

I also decided to not cut a hole in the tartan and put the strap on inside ala Matt Newsome's kilts (thanks again for the advice, Matt!). I really cannot tell the difference at all. I also only used two straps instead of three and, again, I can't tell the difference.

I am now incredibly excited to get the X-Marks tartan and start on that! After that, it's on to try making a 4 yard box pleated kilt, although I may opt to get one from Matt first so I'll have something for comparison.

It's on Route 40 West, a mile or two outside the Beltway, going towards Ellicott City. From the Beltway, take route 40 west and would travel through three traffic lights, passing the Toys R Us plaza and making a U-turn about 100 yards past the intersection, just across from Pizza Hut. The PA Fabric Outlet is in that same parking lot, sandwiched between the Pizza Hut and a muffler shop.

Am I the only one who is glad to see that Schultz doesn't resemble his avatar?

Wonderful job on the kilt, by the way. I am anxious to try my hand at kiltmaking. Right now I'm beginning knitting lessons so I can make my own hose. My wife is now convinced that aliens have abducted her husband.

One tiny question. I see that you chose the military style pleating, but not to the white (vertical) stripe. Like the kilt by PDCORLIS, the absence of the white stripe "softens" the presentation. Was that your intention?

It's actually pleated to that white vertical stripe, but I suppose that picture doesn't convey that very well due to lighting and the sharpness of the pic.
