Smile Do Black Patten Leather Shoes...

...really reflect up? They do when they have a mirror attached to them.

Alright, I know that some people on this board disagree with situations where women act in a manner that society in general wouldn't tolerate in men, especially if it has to do with men in kilts. This story is meant in fun. All actions were meant in jest. And as far as I know no one actually got thier privacy violated.

Last Friday night my wife and I braved the weather to venture out to the Black Rose Irish Pub in Grand Rapids, MI. The band Craic Wisely was playing and my friends and I are fans. I wore my black UK and my friend Jim also wore a Utilikilt. To round out the kilts in the room, two of the band members were kilted (Jim sold them to them last summer , which is where I met the band).

A few beers into the night, Jim comes back over to the table after having conversated with a group of people he knew, but I didn't. He has a big smile of his face and informs me that one of the ladies (whom he didn't know), upon hearing that there would be men in kilts at the affair had attached a mirror to the top of her shoe. I couldn't believe it at first. But shortly their after I got closer look and spied this:

I, wearing my kilt "regimental," kept my distance, until I had a chance to talk to the lady. It turns out that it was in jest and that in truth it didn't work well do to a lack of light. She gladly allowed me to take a pic, I told her that I thought that you fellows would find it funny. A little later she and my wife began discussing mods to the contraption that would account the low lighting conditions that had made the invention of little use.

All in all we had a good laugh and I hope you guys do to. More pics of the night, not the contraption are available here . All in all we had a great night. We even celebrated the Great Guinness Toast. I am not a professional photographer, but I know some of you guys are and if you want to offer some pointers, that would be fine.

Funny stuff - but I'm not sure the question is really so much "what" is under there...

Looks like the female expedition to find the Loch Ness monster came up empty.

In some states the use of device to peer up into a persons garments for the purpose of spying underclothes or genitalia is considered a felony offense and will get you listed in the sex-offender registry.

Now if a man had done what she'd done, even if he'd done it in jest, he'd be called a pig and a pervert and wind up spending a part of his evening discussing his altered footwear with a police officer, even if there wasn't a specific law about it in his state.

Personally, I think she demeaned herself as a woman with that stunt. I can't even call a female willing to do that a lady. And if she had actually noticed that you don't see much because of the low light, it makes me wonder whether she was really joking or had hoped to spy more than she should.

I'm with Glassman. I'm all for equality between the sexes and all that, but if a man had tried this stunt nobody would be laughing. (Ok, maybe I would laugh, but I'm a perverse S.O.B.) Still, fair is fair and this chick should meet the boys in blue just on the principle of the thing.

If she really wants to know that bad I'm sure somebody would give her a peek without the subterfuge, we are guys after all.

    mirrors on shoes.

It appears it was a joke, but would any women i hang around with do that? NO. It is a pretty lame joke. But i dud laugh a bit when i read the post. I had a girl lift my kilt at a bar (The only time i was reg. in public) awkward, and offensive, yes. If the tables were turned, quite illegal. but gentlemen, we have to accept a double standard.
They are woman, got to love em.....

I think it's rather tacky humor, and as others have said, it wouldn't be acceptable if attempted by a man.

By the placement of the mirror, she would not have seen too much without a bit of a tip!

Oh! well, I guess they need their fun as well!

Suppose it had been a male, ( I won't say man) that raised your Kilt at that bar? Then what would you have done? If you knock him out you go to jail for assault. What would you all do?

    What's up?

(Uh, I know I'll regret this, but...) All I can think as I read the recent exchange about the woman who attached a mirror to her shoe is "lighten up" guys! Yes, everything (well almost everything) said by the various posters is indeed correct, but I think this whole affair is a sad commentary on the current state of how people view kilts. While most men would not look up a woman's dress (well, not if he could get caught!) nor would most women look up a pair of paints; to a lot of people, a man wearing a kilt is either a joke or an invitation.

I don't mean to point fingers, but the kilt community has done a lot of titillate with the idea that there is something mysterious "up there." Even the Scotish whiskey distillers have used this icon to promote their product http://www.zooproductions.be/films02...wson_s_1B.html.

On the other hand, there is a note of humor in this and I'm sure if any of these posters had met the woman personally and had a beer with her, they would not be so quick to condemn her for having "balls", as it were.
