    Jeans

Just wondering if anyone else on here has ever worn jeans. I owned a pair when I was a teenager but was never keen on the denim texture or the tight gusset so when they wore out I never replaced them. Always favoured wider fitting cotton or polyester trousers or shorts and even some wool trousered suits for business wear; kilts for special occasions. The arrival of the self coloured kilts in lighter materials gives a new option for casual wear but I have no desire for a denim kilt.

I was a blue collar worker (instrument maintainance) in a chemical plant before retiring in 2002, and I wore jeans daily. I, even with kilts still wear jeans more than any other pants. I wear them for bowling, fishing and for several other activities. Wearing relaxed fit jeans gets away from the tight crotch feeling. I am starting to replace them with kilts for some things now though. I guess in some ways, I'm a "kilted redneck"

I have, and I have several problems with them:

    1. They're the tightest of trousers. I still get along well in fairly baggy pants (not sagging, mind you) but jeans can get quite uncomfortable.

    2. The pockets. Utterly unusable. If you're like me and don't use the back pocket (pickpockets and sitting on your wallet = not so good) then that leaves the front ones. Try sitting down with a jeans pocket with a wallet in it. Ouch!

    3. The price. Kilts are expensive, but for the most part they're hand made from a lot of material. Jeans are machine made by God knows who - and most of the time they're pre-worn for you.

I do sometimes wear a flannel-lined set from LL Bean, and that can be pretty comfy, since they're looser. But jean-cut pockets are awful, and I certainly wouldn't have bought them for myself (clothes got mixed around a lot at home when I was a kid).

I wear jeans quite often. Being raised in the country, they were (and still are) the main choice for casual wear (when I'm not kilted). I still like to wear them when I'm going western, with the cowboy boots and hat.

Jeans, heck yes, I grew up in them, horrible things, I'm amazed I ended up being able to have children!

I would never ever wear them again. One carry over from them is that they "wore" away all the hair on my legs and it won't grow back.

I hate jeans but they did drive me to wearing kilts!

    Jeans! I hate them!

True about the pockets - they're so tight it's impossible to get stuff into/out of them when sat down, it's a challenge when standing up too some times. I work in a school, so have a mighty huge bunch of keys. No chance of those going into a jeans pocket.

I tend to wear what are labelled as "jeans", but they're a nice soft black material, with sensible pockets, which aren't tight, for work (which involves cable work up ladders and such) and any time I'm not in a kilt. Also, they were reduced about three times in the sales which saves me some money which can go towards another kilt. yay!

I wear (and have worn) jeans most of the time....sorry if I'm not a "full-time kilter" but that's the way it goes.

I wear the closest fitting ones that I can find. (This is increasingly difficult in the age of "relaxed fit" which I translate into "baggy ***".) I can't wear the "dockers" type of trousers at all because - oddly enough - I feel like my yarbles are in constant free-fall while wearing them. This does not seem to happen when I wear a kilt...go figger. I have several pair that I keep "nice" so that I can wear them with a sport coat when going "dressy but casual". Both of my children will be happy to tell you that everything was in working order when they were conceived in spite of the stifling crush of indigo denim that half of their genetic material had to endure.

My philosphy about wearing jeans most of the time is this: if they catch you behind enemy lines wearing THEIR uniform, then you're a spy and they shoot you: if they catach you behind enemy lines wearing YOUR uniform, then you're a prisoner of war and they have to feed you, house you and keep you alive until the war is over.

Unfortunately, in the real world of industry, loose clothing is a BIG no-no. I've seen first hand the result of being caught up in a piece of equipment! Aside from my kilts I still own 5 sets of jeans and one set of trousers, that's it. I buy the relaxed fit jean, one size larger than needed, to keep the comfort level as high as possible. The worst part of wearing any trouser type garment that I have found is entering and exiting an automobile...OUCH! I've learned to use due caution from past experience.

I wear jeans quite a bit of the time, suits some more of the time, my old Army uniform pants some of the time, and my kilt some of the time, pretty much in that order.

Until this thread, I guess I didn't realize how much jeans are an American thing. I'm sure that there are plenty of Americans on the BBS who hate jeans, but it's the Great Britain related guys who are posting that they hate jeans, and the American guys who are saying, "Yeah, I wear them [sometimes/usually/etc]."

There are still loads of people who wear them over here. I guess the thing you're seeing on here is because there's not many of us British folk (comapred to USA folk) here at xmarks.
