I didn't get to see Mike last night, but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the BW & Welsh Guards.

As we entered the lobby, we were immediately "greeted" by one of the Welsh Guards asking my youngest how old he is. My DS got shy & tried to bury himself into me, but I turned him around and told him to answer the man. When my DS told him "9," the WG responded, "Nine! You can't be nine! I'm almost nine & you're much taller than me!"

He was wearing his feather bonnet at the time, of course.

Now my youngest has his own special memory of the evening. Unfortunately, now he wants a bright red jacket like the WG wears.

Boy, am I glad that you can't just walk into store & buy one.

I think maybe I saw you from a distance . . . did you have a jacket that was a tapestry / print on a gold or light brown background, black velvet collar? I couldn't get close enough to get your attention without shouting.

And I'm impressed--I'd never have thought you would understand if I had described my jacket as a tapestry-like fabric, so I didn't bother. So now, you showed me! And, I guess you can handle that the color of the velvet trim wasn't black, but French Navy blue. But given the distance, you did very well.

I'm sorry we couldn't meet up. The next opportunity is NTIF.

I didn't run into my friend Jim of Caledonian Kitchen either, but he did go kilted, & he said that several of the BW & WG lads gave him a "Well done."

All of the kilted men I saw there were dressed in P.C. ( & looked sae braw) except one, who wore a casual military jacket. I can't help but think that for as much as the tickets cost, ppl might put out a wee bitty effort to dress up.

I got to talk to several Black Watch "Jocks" after the show manning the CD table. Nice lads, all under 21, very polite. They were from Fife (naturally, since the BW recruits from Perth, Angus and Fife) and were very supportive of Americans taking an interest in their heritage.

I saw quite a number in PC . . . several in a PC with a standard long tie, which I thought was "interesting"! If I'd paid for an orchestra-section ticket (or several) I probably would have been in full regalia also!!

Saw the Blackwatch last night at Artemis Ham Concert Hall here at UNLV in Las Vegas. There were a lot of kilts out. The St Andrew's Society went as a group, but I saw quite a few, of varying types and quality, on other people. LV is much less formal than most places, so very few of us were wearing the full rigout. I wore my Grant Ancient, with an ivory shirt and black tie and hose, with a plain tweed jacket cut for wearing with a kilt. I thought about wearing my Grant Hunting (aka Blackwatch) kilt, but decided against it. I did wear Blackwatch flashes in honor of the occasion.

That reminds me, I saw one little girl wearing a Blackwatch kilted skirt, there with her father. I commented on the appropriateness and they thought that I meant her wearing a "kilt" until I explained what tartan it was in. She was walking proud as they went back in for the second half.

We went to an "Irish" Pub afterwards (because we're made to feel at home there), and you could hear the eyes popping as ten or twelve kilted men walked in as a group. Most of the women were wearing hostess kilts or at least sashes, as well. We've come a long way in this country since I was a kid, either in ethnic relations or ignorance. Everybody either thought that it was appropriate for a bunch of kilted Scots to walk into an Irish pub, or that we were Irish. (A mix of the two, judging by comments.) When I was a kid, it would have been an uncomfortable time for the management. When my Dad was kid, it would likely have sparked a riot.
