Sorry to start a new thread on this but...

I did not know where else to ask this very specific question, where the appropriate pepole could read it.

I know many of us have ordered kilts from scottishkilts.com. What will the duty be for a the Irish-American which cost about $116.00 dollars, into the US?

I have read many of the former posts on this, but I am confused. I understand that it depends a lot on the agent, but I also read that duty does not affect items valued at less than $200.00. I do not recall any mention of concern for duty fees when we were talking about ordering these kilts, so maybe it is exempt?

First are you sure you mean scottishkilts.com not scotishkilts.net? SK.net has the $104 Irish American kilt, SK.com seems to only have $450 kilts on their site.

However, I bought a $217 kilt from SK.net and paid no import duty since they used parcel force.

I wrote to scottishkilts.net to ask this very question (related to who they ship via as has been discussed here before).

Here is the answer they sent back:
    __________________________________________
Thank you very much for your order.

Please note that your order will be dispatched via International Datapost, this method is through the US Postal service and 99% of the time cuts out any duty and taxes that would usual apply with FedEx and UPS.

Please also note that you will receive an email with the tracking reference once your Kilt has been dispatched.

    Kind regards,

    John Paul McDougall,
    Scottish Kilts Customer Care.
    ___________________________________________

I suspect their shipping method and the low cost of the Irish-American kilt will = no duties.

The kilts I have gotten from the UK have all be marked as "gift" when they are sent through Royal Air Mail. That seems to do the trick as I never have had a problem getting them through or have had to pay duty. Maybe you can ask them to mark it that was a "belts over the suspenders" measure

    Thumbs up

I am certain I gave the wrong website to start off with, and mean scottishkilts.net.

Sounds like I got the odds on my side.

There should not be any duty on a purchase under $200.
