Some people were put off by the cursing and violence. Having grown up (like you Jason) in the 80's of Rambo, Commando, etc and the 90's of Pulp Fiction, etc I loved Formula 51.

The premise of the movie was great. Robert Carlyle as a crazed Liverpool fan (aren't they all), Sam Jackson in a kilt, Emily Mortimer (Rrrrrrrrr) as an assasin, Liverpool and United match in a flick, and the ending were all very fun.

A bit off topic, but does anyone else find that they are seeing extras in kilt in the background much more often? My wife and I were watching a movie last week, and in the final scene their is a gent in kilt and argyle in the crowd at the statue of liberty. Here are a few films I have noticed this in:

    Raising Helen (mentioned above)
    National Treasure

There are a few more, but my mind is not working well today. It's still clogged with a cold.

I haven't really noticed it, but then I don't notice extras too much anyway. It's possible though that movie folks would try to make a crowd more international, especially at touristy sites, like the Statue of Liberty. One way to do that would be to put extras in different culturally inspired clothes, like kilts.

Or maybe you just notice the kilts more.

There has to be some kilts in that movie.
Gene Kelly, Syd Charise great story, and music.

Just received my VHS copy off eBay in the mail this weekend and watched it Sunday night with my wife. She loves old movies, Shirley Temple movies, classics of all sorts, etc. She said she remembered watching Wee Willie Winkie as a little girl, but doesn't remember the kilts. (That kinda supports my observation that young children generally do not make a fuss about a man in a kilt.)

I would like to add Mrs. Brown to the list. I am a fan of Billy Connolly and seeing him spend the entire movie kilted was excellent. I know its been out for awhile but I just found it in the last couple of months.
