I just got exactly the same kilt for hiking and general knocking around, and I was considering sewing down the tops of the pleats as well.
Did you run a line of stitches down the length of the pleat or did you just tack
it at the hip line.

I ran the stich line down the hip about 6". I don't have it in front of me but I had my wife mark where the tailbone was and I machine stiched all the pleats.
