Ancient or Hunting tartan help

Bear or I can make "reasonably priced kilts" in the Buchannan tartan in PV (it's NOT the Modern bright one). Many people who do Ren Faires love it for the earthy tones.

As someone that can wear Buchanan as a family tartan, I am really liking the version you and Bear have Rocky. It's much nicer than the bright modern version.

My friend, who I have recently gotten into kilts is planning on renewing his vows this summer. He and his wife have decided to do it at a rennaisance festival, and he (her too) wants to wear a kilt.

They want a subtle color though, with lots of earthtones. They absolutely love the tartan Wallace wears in "Braveheart".

So the question is, what tartans in that style would you recommend, and do you know a kiltmaker who can make one at a reasonable price?

The Buchanan Rocky mentioned is quite nice. You may also want to check out the Maple Leaf tartan (Bear and MacHummel sell those ones). Anther one that I really like for subdued colours is Isle of Skye This can be found quite reasonably priced in the Jura range (5 yard, 8 yard standard, and 8 yard premium) at www.scottishkilts.net

One last note, if they are doing it at a Ren faire, they may want to look at a more historically accurate kilt and check out the 4 yard box pleat kilts from Matt Newsome http://albanach.org/ I am sure you can get almost any tartan they may be interested in.

Well, a box-pleated philabeg would NOT be authentic for the RenFaire period. For the 1500's, the belted-plaid (aka "great kilt") is the only "kilt" that will do...!

Thanks everyone. We checked out Celtic Croft, and while he likes the kilts for the authentic look he also wants something that he can wear other places too.
