No Heckling
Having lived in Arkansas and Missouri for the past 25 years, my wife and I have become addicted to catfish. So today, we decided to have a catfish dinner at a place about 20 miles out of town (in the country) called the Cajun Catfish House. Although we had dined there many times before, I had never been their while kilted. Well today, I wore my Irish National, and while I have never been heckled while wearing a kilt, I told my wife to be prepared for this to happen at this particular dinner. Beer is sold here as well as catish, and both flow continuously.
The dinner is one big room. It probably seats about 100 people, and when we got there it was packed. My wife and I had to stand out in the open, waiting for people to leave before we could be seated. You would have thought that I was standing in front of a crowd to give a speech because all eyes were looking in my direction. Even people who were seated with their backs to me were turning around to look.
After about a five-minute wait, we were seated. Not one single remark from anyone during the meal, or as we were leaving. As my wife and I were talking, I noticed quite a few women looking my way. If I looked in their direction, then they would look away. Some men looked, but not very many. One young women (probably eary 20's), seated at a booth facing our table was looking at my kilt, every time I looked her direction. I began to think maybe my sporran had not pushed my apron down far enough (quick check - apron was completely down). There was a group of about 8 women at a table in back of my wife. One women had gotten up to take pictures of the group. I noticed that she took quite a few pictures with the camera facing my direction, so I'm probably in a lot of these photo's. This same group of women left just before my wife and I, and were standing in the parking lot having a conversation when my wife and I came out. They looked my direction, then headed to their cars as my wife and I headed to ours.
Sorry for rambling, but this all was rather uneventful. I thought I might get my first heckling here - but it never happened. There were probably lots of conversations about my kilt, but none with me, favorable or otherwise. I'm sort of disappointed. Of course when you are 59, walk with a cane, have thinning white hair, having a pretty lass in here 20's starring at your kilt isn't bad.

Oh the joys of a non-event. I personally think that it is grand, especially when others are looking at you without saying anything.
Hope you enjoyed your catfish.

See that's my favorite thing...the non-verbal heckling. People who stare because they can't believe what they are seeing. The last time I flew kilted, I got looks bordering on, "What are you wearing?", "I can't believe you're wearing that in public", and "That's...um....interesting....yeah....interesting ..."

Congratulations.
I'm sure that several of those present Googled kilts afterwards!
That is spreading the word!
