    Interesting Offering on Ebay

    Yes, Sherry, I was wearing tartan hose (at huge expense!) when dressed formally right up until the early 1990s. The really rather ghastly white hose is a modern innovation!

    White hose are most likely for economic reasons in the rental business. They can just stock one color rather than several diced or tartan hose to match the various tartans. Since the rental places were pushing white people got the notion that was the way to do it.

    I think tartanhoses look great when dressed formally...I'll get myself at least 1 pair....some day :rolleyes:

    They're filthy expensive, but that's understandable...handknitted, made to measure.

    I really think the off white hoses look terrible and out of place when I'm wearing my Prince Charlie jacket....fashion or not. They don't match with anything and they look odd.
    The tartan hoses are not outdated...just expensive.

    So the correct traditional style, for formal wear, would be to have hose in the same tartan as your kilt? ...and then have solid color flashes?
