Bobbie has been prototyping some ideas for shirts and vests.
She finished these today, so I had to model them.

I know, I've got a cargo kilt on and it doesn't really work with the style.
And I should have put on a pair of our new kilt hose which are hand made on a circa 1880, circular, hand cranked sock making machine.

But I thought I would post these and get reactions from the membership.

What do you think, too costumey?

I think the look is great! And what a distinguished gentleman wearing it! Not sure if it is too costumey. I probably would not wear the shirt and vest other than to a Renn faire, but they do look nice. Others will have other opinions I am sure.

I hope this thread makes it somehow, but I was so moved by the pictures that I simply had to delurk.

That is a most fabulous look. That has to be one of the most outstanding kilt pictures I have ever seen. It "works." Somehow, it all just looks right for some reason.

Thank you for posting those, it gives me a clearer view on how I would like my self to look. And that is the first picture of a solid kilt that I actually thought looked like it was somehow "in period" or at least in place with formal dress.

I like the look. It all seems to go together rather nicely. The only thing that looks odd is the pocket on the kilt, it seems out of place. The white wig is a nice touch also.

WIG? What wig? I earned every one of those gray hairs.

Our sock making lady is a member of the local knitting guild. I approached her originally to see if anyone would hand knit kilt hose for us. She came up with a better idea.

The machine is circa 1880. All original. I must be hand cranked. But the sock lady says it's soothing to do. Kinda like spinning must be.

The hose are VERY nice. Super thick. 70% Wool and 30% nylon. They reach up to my mid thigh before folding. Probably the warmest hose I've ever worn. Good for keeping the legs toasty while while walking the dogs.
We're calling them "Heritage Style Hose". They are ribbed all along the calf and into the fold over. No patterns of diamonds or anything.
The fold over area is almost a half inch thick before folding.
Think, the thickest pair of hiking socks you have ever seen.

Right now we have them in Ecru, Smokey gray, Smokey brown, Bottle Green, Lovet green, Lovet blue, and muted blue. All the colors are like tweed with a little bit of brown and gray mixed in.

I like the whole look, in particular the vest. Of course anyone holding a coffee cup with a Kilt on is OK in my book.

I like the look but I don't know how easily it could be mixed into modern dress. Perhaps a vest with a V-neck down to 4 or 5 buttons (keeping the sporran cutaway) would allow for a golf shirt underneath ot even a t-shirt.

All are great ideas which will absolutely fill a desire though.

Really beautiful work on the shirt and vest - but to be honest, I can't imagine myself wearing them as day wear. I'm used to the "oh, do you play the pipes?" question - I'm not sure I'm ready for "oh are you going to a constitutional convention?"

But that's just me...
