I like what this website says in it's FAQ section.

Here is a sample of what I mean:

If I’m buying a kilt do I have to buy all the other clothes to go with it?
No . . . if you live near a kilt hire specialist then you can hire the bits and pieces that you need for a special occasion. If you’re wearing the kilt as a casual item of clothing then look upon it as you would a pair of trousers. Those can be worn with Doc Martin boots and a T-shirt so why not wear the kilt in the same way.
If you’re going to semi formal events then you probably do need a few additions to your wardrobe. A conventional suit jacket would look silly with a kilt as would a pair of ankle socks so save up for a kilt jacket and some kilt hose.

    STA...

    Graham,

The STA is a wealth of information concerning kilts & tartan...I direct folks there frequently when "kilt questions" arise...

    Cheers!

These now appear to be available in their online store for £2.50.

Oh, very droll, David! Actually, only this morning I joined the Scottish Tartans Authority, and saw that they are now taking orders for the Kilt Passports.

The idea is to have one for each kilt. I'll not bother to have them for my casual and American (no disrespect) kilts, but I have ordered 20 Passports to cover the Scottish kilts currently in my "Kollection". 8) 8)

I am now a fully paid-up member of the Scottish Tartans Authority (with lapel badge and car-sticker to prove it!), and I have received my Kilt Passports. They are a bit of a novelty really, but each one is numbered and has allocated spaces for details of the tartan weaver, kiltmaker, etc. with relevant dates. There is a space for a photo of the owner wearing the kilt, and several pages for notes you might want to make concerning change of ownership (Heaven forbid!), repairs or alterations, travels with the kilt, etc., etc. All in all, well worth the £2.50 cost.

MacSimoin included a picture of his kilt passport in a recent thread, and I though I would resurrect this one.

I looked at the STA site but saw no location where someone could buy one of these passports. Are they readily available yet? Who has some for sale? Anyone have any new info on these?

I'm just trying to imagine Hamish at the immigration counter at each country with all the passports for his kilts ready to be stamped and laughing hysterically....my coworkers already think I'm nuts....this probably proves it to them....

    Colin,

E-mail Brian Wilton at the Tartans Authority, or contact Matt. I know he includes one with each kilt he makes.

    Cheers,

    Todd

Thanks Todd. I will email Matt. Hopefully he will also answer here so that others that may be interested in a passport for their traditional kilts can get the information as well.

Somehow I knew you would have some insight into these

    I became a member early November 2005, didn't receive anything, send an email...reply "We'll check it"...after 4 months...still nothing.

I can't login to the shop either.

I really like to support the STA, but I'm not pleased about their "members only service".
