    Gray Tartans?!?

I was looking at myself in my kilt and realizing that I really don't look that good in a red royal stewart tartan. My scottish ancestors were from the stewart (actually, stuart) family and I feel some pull to stick with the stewart tartan. I was looking through some of the tartans at the kilt store and came upon a gray stewart tartan:

I think it looks really cool from this view but I was curious if anyone had actually seen any gray-based tartans in person and what they thought of them. I can't believe I'm already thinking about another kilt.

Seems that I remember a big run on Thompson Grey a little while back.

USAK has it on their chart of tartan swatches.

There is the Black Stewart - pleated to the sett it would look quite sharp.

I have one pleated to the stripe and that is really rather red.

Grey Stewart is on my wish list, for sure. If you google "grey stewart" on ebay you'll come across akilt skirt that's been there for ages. Look at the close up and you'll get an idea of what it looks like in a garment.

Thompson Gray comes to mind, of course, as well..

You might try the Hunting Stewart. It's more subdued and it's still a Stewart tartan.

Stewart Grey is a beautiful tartan. Just my opinion but, feel that it will make a terrific kilt.

I know I've posted this pic before, but the Highland Granite tartan is a beauty:

The Douglas Grey Ancient is also very sharp looking in my not so humble opinion.

The Grey Stewart is nice...but, I'll have to agree that the Grey Douglas is nicer, IMHO. It also has an active military heritage, being worn by Officers of HM's Royal Air Force in Scotland.
