It looks like the evening is clear for me as well. I think the nose count is 7 (+ escorts) at this point. See you in Stratford!

It's too bad I'm in PEI, as I would have loved to have attended. I was, you see, born in Chatham. Mom's family all still reside in the Ridgetown area.

    Moosehead,
I was born in Chatham but didn't live there long, My Father grew up there after getting off the boat from Scotland. He met my mother at high school there. Some relatives live in Wallaceburg and I have a Grandmother and an Aunt At Erie Beach, between Erieau and Cedar Springs and Bleheim. My wife lived in Ridgetown for a few years when she was younger. Machummels wife is from Chatham as well. Small world!!!.
You certanly have a few Kent County friends here. Do you miss the sweet corn in the summer, the Erieau Radishes the size of baseballs, sweet as sugar in the early spring. I'm rambling on. You live in a wonderful place now too.

    Cheers,

    Kilted Stuart

    KS,

alas, I never actually "lived" in the area. You see, my old man was in the RCAF. When I was about to be born, Mom was shipped back to her folks. A week after I was born, we were off to RCAF Greenwood, NS. The closest I came to actually living there was when I was posted to CFB Trenton in the late '80s.

My grandparents lived in a little place called Duart. Very possible you passed through at some point. Right next to Highgate. Spent many a fine summer holiday swimming at Erieau or Rondeau Park...in water that was crystal clear and freezing one day, clay brown and warm the next. Loved that place. Greatest corn on God's earth.

I still have family in the area, although most are well past their primes and disappearing quickly. Jay is our family name around there (my granny's maiden name). I haven't been back since both of my grandparents passed away in '93, by which time I was in the RAF in the UK. I think though, that it may be high time for the family to take a vacation this summer and head up that way, for old times sake.

BTW, knew a guy from Fergus when I was posted to CFB Uplands, Ottawa. He was a tri-athlete. Can't recall his name though.

I find that amaizing, how small a world we live in. Thats a great story.

My wife lived in Belleville and spent a bit of time at Trenton Air base for air shows and whatnot. Her Grandfather and her Great Uncle were Canadian air men in the war. Her other Grandfather took recon pictures in Europe during the war for England. I guess thats what created and interest for her family in the base and the planes.

You hit the description of Kent County sweet corn right on the head. If you haven't tried it, you don't know good corn. It's such a small thing, but one of the pleasures in life that don't kill your liver.

To be honest, Kent was basically the only other area of the country that we considered when we left Nova Scotia 2 years ago. The area outside of Quebec City was in the running for a short time (Irish and Huron sides are from there), but as the wife is originally from here the whole French language thing would have made it nigh on impossible for her.

Who knows, though. Maybe if MacHummel needs a marketing guy (who can also sew and do leatherwork..HINT, HINT ), I might consider moving. If I could buy back Mom's family home, I would be in Heaven. Corn, corn and more corn. Not to mention the lake trout, whitefish, perch and sheapheads.

After all, a guy can eat only so many lobster.
