Well, if the custom did start with the formation of the Highland regiments, then yes, technically it does answer the question! :mrgreen:
If we have documented evidence of Scottish soldiers not wearing undergarments from the late 1700's - early 1800's, then the "tradition" has been around for a while.
"Highland Soldier" by Dianna Henderson may also be able to shed some light on this query.
