Colored Socks
Rons thread on socks for tennis shoes brought to mind something I've noticed that is lacking. A lot of us are wearing the newer style kilts with boots and non-dress shoes-and there's much choice in the sock department. Black, white and gray are generally it. It seems there would be a market for ankle and quarter socks in the colors we see in kilt hose- oatmeal, charcoal, lovat green, stone, lovat blue etc.

Don't you know that the marketing people say that men can only wear black, white, or grey socks? Okay, maybe navy or dark brown, but that's it!
I'm saying this in a humorous way, but that is the driving reason.

I'm going to buy some striped socks, that'll show 'em.

Other Socks
You can also buy soccer socks, even similar to the striped ones shown. Check out any store that sells soccer socks.
DALE.

YIKES!!
Mind you - get a few felt tip pens and you could colour in diamonds of whatever colours to match the tartan of your kilt on the white stripes, then draw in the dark X markings for the full argyle.
I used to spend hours designing and knitting complicated patterns for jerseys - the other day I saw a garment, simply knitted in a cream coloured cotton which had then been printed with a multicolour design.
Sigh.

If I wanted to follow the majority I wouldn't be in a kilt.
They make dress socks for pants, why not the same in ankle or quarter lenght? Further heresy- non wool kilt hose.
Dale, I wear soccer socks as much as I do regular hose. They're a great substitute.

Again the for the same reason I don't wear sneakers with my kilt I don't wear ankle lenght socks (Just doesn't look right to me). I usually wear socks like these when I'm dressed casually:

I'm not endorsing LLBean (I think these prices are rediculous), it's just the first example I found on the web of what I usually wear. I have pairs in green, brown, black, grey, tan and blue.

Wigwam makes socks very similar to those that Arrogcow found at LL Bean...and they're almost as expensive.
Fortunately there's an outlet store for Wigwam near me and they sell the seconds in a pack of three for about the same price as one pair of "firsts" at the sporting goods store. Thus far I have yet to find anything so seriously wrong with the seconds that it's noticeable....go figger.
Check your yellow pages for sock outlets!

There's some pretty frilly stuff here, but if it's socks you're looking for there's something for everyone. I don't own any of their socks, but I have heard that some guys like their over the knee socks for under their kilts.

The last time I saw someone wear socks like those, somebody dropped a house on her.
