I still prefer the Argyle instead of the Prince Charlie. I like the vest but like the longer Argyle jacket with a black silk long tie. A little less french waiterish. I wore the Prince Charlie and a fly once at a wedding show with Machummel. He of course picked me to wear it and he comfortably wore the Argyle ( thanks Machummel). It did look good, the fly added a very formal look, I could have done without the bowtie.
I don't wear the Giilies because they look a little like dancers slipper on me. My big feet (size 12-13) look bigger yet somewhat affeminate. I prefer black Brogue dress shoes.

Fly plaid
As many others have mentioned, I cannot recall ever seeing anyone other than a piper wearing a fly plaid over here, even for a very formal wedding.
Panache - I think the 'formality' that a fly plaid normally implies would not really look right with tweed jacket. What sort of occasions would you consider wearing them together?
Just my two penn'orth

Personally I will wear my fly plaid with an Argyle because as long as the rest of the outfit is still very dressy I feel it looks good. It adds a nice touch of class to the outfit. And I always wear it on my left side because it just feels more natural there.

Of course it does. It leaves your sword arm free and unencumbered.
