I love wearing black dress shirts, black pullover sweaters, and dark gray fleece vests with my kilts. Here is a recent pic at a cowboy-themed wedding (hint: I'm the one in the kilt.)

The only problem I've noticed with black dress shirts is that they fade noticeably after a few washes. Maybe it's the bleaches they put in laundry detergent these days. Anyway, the shirt looks great. Black goes with a lot of things. It's a "slimming" color as well.
Coincidentally I just got some black peach faced fabric to make a long sleeved tunic to go with my Black Stewart - it needs something a bit more upmarket than the usual - I think some small silver buttons are going to be really essential to the look.
I usually avoid black as it is so goth - but it really does give some tartans an edge.
Black definitely makes a statement - even with a kilt - or is that particularly with a kilt?

Thanks for the kind words, guys! I think I'm going to be looking at button-down shirts a little more in the future for wearing with my kilts. Hmmmmm...another reason for my lovely wife to hide my wallet.
I do so love playing with possibilities. That looks SHARP!
It gives the Gordon tartan a whole nother look!
Thanks for passing that tip on.
