You know, the Dropkick Murphys are playing a 6:30 AM show tomorrow...first 100 people get into the pub for free, after that it's paid admission until the place hits capacity. I don't think I'm up for being awake that early though.

St Paddys day is a bust for me. I'll be in the firehouse from 8 Friday morning until 8 Saturday morning. I don't expect there to be much celebration in the area I work. Not many Irish there. Means no ones going to get hammered and burn their house down either. Damn.

Don't ussually do much on St. Paddys day anyway.

I might show up at the firehouse wearing my kilt, even though it'll end up in my locker 5 minutes after I get there.

    Anyway, you all have fun

Took the day off work, and am gigging most of today and tomorrow. Tipping lots of Guinness and the odd tot of Jameson's. Just being careful with the scheduling.

Whaddaya trying to drum up business? Do you get paid by the hour or by the fire?

You ought to be able to find at least a couple of fellow public servants who had a similar schedule and with whom you can get together saturday evening for a belated celebration...hell, I'd bet that any self-respecting inn-keeper would certainly stand you guys a belated round in honor of your being on the job and keeping the city safe during the holiday. Most of the cops and firemen that I know think that an uneventful shift is the best shift of all.

....and besides...if you do miss today, there's a St. Practice Day every other month on the seventeenth, so ya got that goin' for ya.

    For an illustrated example:

...the bars and pubs in your zip code may follow other business practices but you've got to stay in shape regardless.

    Well....

I started drinking at 2pm, and ended at 1am - eleven hours of drinking! At one pub in downtown Boston a trio of pipers came in and played a few songs...although no one else in the bar seemed to notice that one of the songs was "Scotland the Brave."

One girl told me she'd never kissed a man in a kilt before, so we solved that for her.

One group of girls decided to answer "the question" for themselves, and a digital camera was put to use. They spent a few minutes passing the camera around amongst themselves afterward, and gave me a few winks and blushes.

I'm sure most people thought I was just wearing the kilt for St. Patrick's Day. Little did they know that I've worn a kilt daily for nearly three years.

headed down to the local irish pub at around 3:30 or so. They had blocked off the main road, and added three festival tents. The bar itself has a capaticy limit of 100, and there probably around 500-700 people in and around the bar at any given time. It was rather cold, so a great many revellers left well before closing time.

I did notice one other kilted individual at the pub, wearing a blue and red sportkilt. Talked to him for a second, but it seemed that he had something on his mind, and dashed off. At the speed he was moving, she most have been something to see.

Around 10pm the pipe and drum corps. arrived to enliven the evening. The irish band on stage was pretty good, but the pipers blew them away. Even the wind and cold rain didn't keep them away. You should have seen the women swoon as a small army of kilted pipers marched it. It was a thing of beauty.

Though rather uneventful, it was a great night. After several glasses of Jameson, a few kilt checks and a very persistant nag with a camera ( she never did get the pic she wanted. No way I'm going to give in to the desires of a blazing-red-headed woman who made rosanne barr look hot) I made it home in one piece. Thank god for that.

I will say one thing I did notice. Of all the women who wanted to know the answer to the question, not one of the really attractice ones was at anytime really persistant about it. It seamed that those who would have had to make the most effort seemed to care the least about looking like a fool. Then again, does make sense in an odd sort of way. Luckily, only one person got away with getting an un-invited peek before I could swat her hand away (an eldery 'lady' who had what appeared to be the thrill of a lifetime as she noticed a lack of undergarments 'neath the kilt).

I'm eagery anticipating April 17th, St. Practice Day! have to keep in shape for next year!

My mind's usually the only thing in the gutter.

Though my friend won't stop teasing for making out with her best friend on Friday....
