They're the best we have in the US at the moment, though. The New England Historic Genealogical Society's Committee on Heraldry will also register arms. Neither may "grant" arms because there is no heraldic authority, although some heraldic scholars are now stating that "assuming" arms is not "illegal" per se in the US since we do not have a legally recognized authority.

Australia and South Africa are in similar situations, although citizens in all three nations may receive foreign grants of arms with proper documentation.
