    Translation please? (German?)

    My litlle (15 yr) girl wants me to buy this shirt for her, but I hesitate to buy her anything with foreign wording on it without knowing what is says; the Front Reads "RAMMSTEIN" and "Reise, Reise". The Back Reads: "WEITER WEITER INS VERDERBEN WIR MUSSEN LEBVEN BIS WIR STERBEN." I'm assuming it's German.

    I believe Rammstein is a name. Resien means journey or trip. The full sentence is "onward in ruin we must love till our death." That's the jist of it.

    Rammstein is a German band. I don't know exactly how to classify them, sort of heavy metal/dark rock sort of stuff (and not at all my thing). I can't translate for you, but that at least gives a bit of context.

    (Edit: I tried Babelfish, it didn't translate half the phrase.)

    Iolaus, From a German language major in the office. She says translation is approximately, "Further, further into death (or dying) we must live until we die" She is not 100% sure but feels that is very close. Hope that helps!

    Ramstein is one of the few bands from another country who sings in a different language to have a GOOD SIZED US audience.

    They're stage show is pretty cool (pyrotechnichally speaking).

    Rammstein is a band. They toured with Korn about 5 years ago, and I saw a video of that, that's all I really know about them, is what I saw from that video.

    I won't go into detail here, being a family-oriented forum and all, but to be general about it, their act was somewhat vulgar.

    My 27 yr. old seamstress is from Berlin. She says this is her favorite
    German group. Although she warns that the music is very good. the lyrics are over the top toward vulgar.
    A translation of the words is;
    "Journey, Journey. Further, further towards perdition, we must live until we die."

    According to her, one of the most famous songs by Rammstein is about a man who digs up the corpse of his wife to make love to her again.

    Very dark and Gothic. She describes the stage show as a cross between Kiss and Alice Cooper. Both on acid.

    Ok, thanks all.

    I'm not going to worry too much about the lyrical content of the music she listens to; she's across the country, so I couldn't control it if I wanted to. Besides, who here listened to their parents about music anyway! No, I just didn't want to be buying something profane or vulgar for her to wear.

    That phrase isn't too bad. Now that I know what it says, I've got to clear it with her mom.

    Sigh. Things like this would've been so much easier if they'd stayed out here.
