That's an interesting idea. Maybe after forming our own country, we could declare war of then USA and after being defeated, they'd give us billions in aid to rebuild. Think of all the kilts we could buy then. I think there was actually a movie with that as a theme.

How about this scenario; suppose the government got the people to believe through deceit that they were liable for a tax but no law was ever written to make the people liable for it and the government prosecuted innocent people for not paying it. How long would you put up with it? Would you continue to allow the government to incarcerate innocent people or would you put a stop to it?

I would still wear mine publicly. They would have to haul me off kicking and screaming all the way to jail/prison. Then, when the public found out what it was costing them to keep all these kilt wearers in prison, the law would get overturned before the next elections.

Wanna bet? Try reading a few things at "Prisonplanet.com" That will get you a little scared. They don't care what they send you to jail for anymore. Don't ask me why cuz I dunno.

I think we already know the answer to that one... supposing that most people were unaware of the fact that no law was ever written, but believed it was...

I can only read Prison Planet every so often as what I read there just doesn't do good things for my stress level. The question we should all be asking isn't one about hypothetical kilt laws, but about the so-called "hate speech" laws that lobbyists are trying to push through Congress.

Will you still use your voice to criticize your government after they outlaw dissent? As Communist apparatchiks everywhere discovered, you don't have to kill a lot of people to make everyone else shut up.

One must choose which ditch one is willing to die in!

I'd hate to see such a day come, but like other oppressive events in history--even in this country--such variations on that theme could arise. So, each of us would have to consider the worth of resistance. Would it be worth physical harm, loss of job, harm to our loved-ones or even death? Are we wearing a kilt in the same way one would wear a pair of jeans—as a fashion statement? If so, perhaps resistance is not worth the price. If we wear a kilt because it's our heritage or because we believe it's the right thing for us (as men) to do, then perhaps the sacrifice would be worth it.

We each would have to weigh the issues and the consequences and asking such a question "hypothetically" is not particularly revealing.

    But thanks for asking!
