software to sort all my image files?

I have photos all over my hard drive, and I would really like to organise them quickly. Any suggestions? For good shareware, I'd pay up to $20, but I prefer free.

Don't know if this is what you are looking for but Picassa grabs them from your hard drive and puts them in chronological order. From what I understand they stay where they are on the drive Picassa just accesses them. I am not very computer savy as you may be able to tell. I like it because it also lets me edit the pics. Picassa is owned by Google.

That would probably be "ACDSee." I still use and still love that program. Their website allows downloads of their past versions for free, I believe.

I'm a Mac user - so we're lucky to have iPhoto included free with all Apple computers. For Windows, iView Media and ACDSee both get high marks - but are about $50 US. Give Picasa a look - its free software from Google and may fit your needs.

I use Picasa and it's pretty good. It lets you create libraries of the images. It has some very basic editing features including red-eye reduction.

What I like most is that it allows me to create a web page from a selection of photos that I can upload to my website so I can share photos with friends and family. Well, that and it's free.

I'll toss another 'aye' vote out there for ACDSee. Been using it for many years. Tried a few others, couldn't get 'em to do what I wanted, nor get them to work as easily.

And I'll throw in another vote for Picassa. (Picassa2 actually)

It will search for image or video files automatically, grab them automatically as you get new ones if you wish, and there are many ways to sort, organize, and search the images. Plus its free, so it doesnt get much more under $20.00 than that.

I'll second that recommendation. I needed another photo editor like I needed a hole in the head, but one task I could not accomplish with any of my current programs was batch "resizing" of graphic files for use on my web pages. I had to do each one, one at a time.

I just downloaded the trial version of ACDSee and checked it out. It did a beautiful job of this task.
