Dave, If this stockist can be relied upon to maintain a regular supply, I'd say those hose, listed as "Stone/Oatmeal" are as close to stone that you'll find.

I have three pairs from the same manufacturer (not retailer though) - 'Gaelic Themes' - and they are what I refer to as stone. They have a rather cooler greyish tint to them than any of my oatmeal hose.

With my 'Kollection' I find it almost essential to have both stone and oatmeal hose on hand (Well! On foot actually!! )

    Kilt Hose

You might try Alexis Malcolm Kilts. If I remember correctly, they offer both "stone" and "oatmeal".

My old standby, Sierra Trading Post, seems to have more of the Bridgedale Blaxnit Garland over-the-knee WOOL soccer socks...they have what appears to be a middle neutral grey...the size is M(edium) so it is supposed to fit only up to a men's US size 9 1/2.

I just ordered two pair and with shipping it came out to just over $20. These are marked as "seconds"...I already have about a half a dozen pair in light olive and dark olive and so far have not noticed any visible defects..."your mileage may vary", as they say...

...so if they look right, I'd go ahead and try a pair or two...on me I can ususally turn the tops over 3 or four times to get a nice cuff just below my knee, so they're plenty long (I'm like 5'11"). I'm sure that you'll end up finding them useful even if the grey isn't exactly what you need.

ps: be sure that they're the over the knee soccer socks...they also have "lowland" socks that are mid calf.

    Try:

I don't know how much of a color chart you could call it....I'm thinking that the ones in the large illustration at the top of the page are the "charcoal".
