    That's a great idea.

Here's another one....how about an interactive kilt model. You could select tartan, hose color, shirt color, leather color, and then see what it would all look like put together. There could be a feature that allows others to cast "aye" or "nae" votes on your selection.

Ooh, ooh (doing my best "Car 54" imitation)...we could put Hamish's face on the model....

Yeah...That's my idea exactly. It would be really useful if it had legitimate selections. Who wears a pink jacket with a kilt?

    Thanks Guys,

I bought three kilts for various circumstances and I'm trying to piece together all of my extras as time goes by. The only thing I'm still waiting for is the belt buckle I ordered so for now I've worn a sweater that covers that area but lays above the sporran. Friends of mine from the Hibernians who have been wearing kilts for many years all told me that it looked good. Even my wife wasn't emberassed when I wore it to a Mass and breakfast when she went with me. I'm still not quite ready for every day wear but I'm not afraid to be the only one at an event wearing a kilt.

Thanks for a helpful community here.
    Chris

Thanks, I feel comfortable here. Every now and then you find a site by accident that is really good.

BTW, I like that Avatar - it has a slight statue of David feel to it. I just hope you've got a little more on below the waist.

    here are the real basics:

    tank - 8ish yd. kilt
    Uk - utilikilt
    AK - amerikilt
tartan - plaid design of a traditional kilt, usually wool
trousers, pants - similar to handcuffs, used to bind and restrict one's movement. Also a form of curse or blasphemy to the truly kilted. Often confusing, while the word is plural, it represents one article of what some call "clothing"

David, that's good - better than saying I look like James Brolin (a common one, for some reason  ). When I worked a FedEx route, the most common one was "lumberjack," and as a security guard, it was "Ogre."

..and I'm fully clothed in that picture.

As for definitions, this idea comes up every now and then, and everyone says it's a good idea, but, to the best of my knowledge, nothing definitive has ever come of it. The only thing I can find on our site that might help you is the abbreviations from the FAQ list:

    AK - Amerikilt
    BK - Bear Kilts
    FK - Freedom Kilts
    FLS - Freelander Sporrans!
MUG - Male Unbifurbricated Garment (not to be used lightly)
    PK - Pittsburgh Kilts
    SWK - Stillwater Kilts
    TFCK - 21st Century Kilts
    UK- Utilikilt
    USAK - USA Kilts
