Matt Newsome is a Genius
I know, we all knew that already. I'm just going to give an example, okay?
I've been corresponding with Matt for the last couple of months about a design for a Sackett family tartan. Most of the e-mails have been about the pricing involved - since any kilt in Sackett is going to require a special run of cloth, I figured get enough for me, my two brothers, and my father (who won't wear a kilt, but will end up with a tartan something) woven in the first run. Matt gave me a breakdown of all of the options we could think of for mills, weight, yardage - everything. This isn't the genius part, this is being an outstanding businessman - the genius part is coming.
If you look at Matt's website, he says he'll create three different designs to choose from. I finished up my write up (geneology, geography, clan ties) last Friday (that it was St. Patrick's Day was a nice coincidence), and sent my deposit Saturday. I check my e-mail this morning, and sitting in my inbox are four designs for my consideration. I started muddling through designing a tartan seven or eight months ago, and hadn't even come up with an initial design, and Matt took four business days!
Again - Genius!
Now to settle down and resume picking a pattern ...

Good thing to know, not the Genius part cuz that's a given. I can picture my Caterpillar tartan in my mind but on paper it doesn't come out so well.
So when are ya gonna post some artwork for us to see?

As soon as my one brother and I can narrow four down to one. We've eliminated one already - it was too busy (and why don't we look busy? We did it right the first time).

Is that dad looking at at least a tartan sportcoat?

I agree
I gave Matt a general idea of the colors I wanted, and in a few days I had several ideas. I didnt want to swing at the first pitch, so I gave Matt some ideas on how we could change or modify his original designs. I think Matt made a total of twelve tartans for us, and in the end, we went with the first one he sent us.
