    Kilted on Vacation

I was home on leave for about 21 days. I spent the first 10 days commuting back and forth to classes on the motorcycle, but after the classes were over, I spent most of my time in my UK or my PK. On a nice Sunday afternoon, I took the family to the gun range, to introduce my visiting cousins to the fine art of writing your name in paper with an automatic UZI. We had a wonderful time. Since I was shooting, I wore my digital camo from PK, and not a sole on the range gave me a second glance. No double takes, no funny questions.

Wal-Mart was a different story. Lots of looks and stares, and a couple of questions. My cousin is from New Jersey, and he is a bit...taken aback by my frivolity or care free outlook. While walking through the parking lot, I told him, "Watch this woman, she is going to take out a camera phone and with out looking obvious, try and take my photo." He laughed so hard when the woman produced a cell phone with a camera eye, that she put it back in her purse before she could take the photo.

At the paintball shop, the salesmen had all sorts of metal objects pierced through his face, and looking at me was really no shock to him. He told my wife that she could bring the paintball gun back to the shop for free service, if she brings the receipt. He said "don't worry if you don’t have the receipt, I will remember you". Of course, that is my cue...you mean you don’t see many guys in Kilts?, He said "all the time, I was the third guy in there that day with a kilt". So, I am a dork I say "really" and he looks at me like a dork, and says, no, not really.

Now the guy at Sam’s club asked me if there was a festival going on in Richmond, because I was the third guy in the store that day with a kilt. Ok, I am not falling for this a second time. Sorry pal that wont work on me...well, I actually was the third guy in there that day with a kilt. I explained to him, (a little remark that I learned on XMarks) that if three men were wearing kilts, and all the women in the store were wearing pants, that would mean he was dressed like a woman. and after a few suggestions of where he could find a kilt, he politely told me, never.

I am sure I have another story or two, but at the moment, I cannot think of them. When I do, or if my wife sends me more photos, I will post them.

    Nice...

Nice story. I guess you have seen the women type that take your picture. I thought that was a funny story. Maybe your cousin will think you are cool, and decide to get a kilt some day. But it is fun, and the stories are always great for others to hear. Looking forward to the pictures.

I went to a pre-launch party in San Francisco a couple of weeks ago. It was for "The Art of the Motorcycle" and there was a pretty big crowd. I went in my traditional McDonald Modern tartan kilt, with off-white kilt hose/green flashes, a dark green dress shirt, black Doc Marten's oxfords and a black leather police m/c jacket.

I was standing near the makeshift bar about 10' inside the door while my g/f was getting some champagne and I felt a hand brush the back of my knee. I looked and a woman in her late-40's or early-50's was holding a camera phone under my kilt from behind, trying to snap a picture. I just knew the pic would come out too dark, but then a saw a flash light up the ground beneath me. Surprise! They have flashes on those little phones!!! I turned to her and asked if she wanted me to use her phone to take a picture up her dress. She blushed and said she was sorry. She was obviously into her cups. Anyhow, she SAID she deleted the picture and I seriously doubt it was anything more than a blurry image of my leg. Her two friends were laughing, all more drunk than her.

Stuff like that used to really bother me. Not the attention, the double standard. If I went around snapping pic up skirts, I'd be arrested! But, after about a year in a kilt, it doesn't even phase me. My g/f would have gotten plenty pissed if she had seen it though!

I love to hear "is their a festival going on somewhere?" I usually tell them that I am in a festival mood all the time. Great time you had going Jay.

heh, woman with a camera phone. I get that a lot out here. I laugh everytime I think about how many women have my picture on their phones, and don't even know my name.

That isn't a bad thing, is it?
