Hey Bryan,

I'm wearing the new Cameron kilt to work today to break it in. Best I can manage is a natural white shirt, black kilt hose with flashes...think I need one of those Johnny Cash black shirts now.

I've got a great idea for selling those black Johnny Cash shirts, too: "buy a shirt, get a date with Reese Witherspoon!"

Friday, I'm headed up to your chilly state for a weekend of soaking in Orvis Hot Springs at Ridgeway. Planning to take some scenic pics with the new kilt on the trip. Think the black and red would look good with a snowy backdrop

Oooh, I *love* fishing the Uncompaghre below the reservoir, in the Pa-Co-Chu-Puk (sp?) campgrounds there in Ridgeway. There are some stunningly big fish in that 'lil tiny bit of water, and they'll hit year around pretty well-try a tungsten beadhead pheasant tail w/ a flashback in size 16.

Hoping the promised break between storms holds over Red Mountain Pass.

They're saying it's going to be in the 60's on the Front Range both days, but that the hills should start to get snow Sunday morning: you might want to think about getting over Red Mountain pass earlier rather than later. Of course, you could also go over Lizard Head Pass; it's a bit more "civilized" in terms of pants-wetting drop offs .

That's my old stomping grounds. Worked as an underground mine engineer's assistant in the Red Mountain Mine back in 1963 at age 18.
Lived down the hill in Ouray and got as drunk as a kid can on 3.2 beer.

Yeah, given a chance, I'd pull up stakes and head for that part of the state pretty happily. I've sipped a dram of the malt deep in the Weimenuche and under the stars more than once. Have you ever been in Ouray for the Ice Climbing competition? I hear it's a blast when those guys roll inot town.

Bryan...I think you'll need a good Aran sweater w/ your new kilt this weekend...

Great trip, added some pics to my gallery in the UK basil Survival II album and the Cameron Black and Red album.

Came in from Durango/Silverton over Red Mountain pass. Been 43 years since I worked in the Idarodo mine at Red Mountain. Sorta hung out and had memories.

Weather was perfect, snow everywhere but the road and clear skies.

Was touched by the miner's memorial statue down at the Ouray hot springs park. Oscar Franz, a guy I worked underground with in 1963 has his name on the memorial.

Had a lot of great soaking time at Orvis Hot Springs, shopped Ridgeway, Ouray, and Telluride, and came back over Lizard Head to Cortez.

Was kilted the whole time I wasn't immersed and the only comment was from one of the friendly lady staff at Orvis who asked where my bagpipes were. Told her under my kilt. She had a bunch of lady coworkers hanging out with her and they all cracked up.

It was warm, cold, windy but never had a chill or gave anyone a thrill. Kilts is made for the mountains too.
