This ranks with all those other possible situations-crossing stiles, in and out of vehicles, double decker buses, hillwalking and so on: just be reasonably sensible in ones movements, and get on with life.

As for the sporran, many and I'm one wear the traditional side sporran for comfort and convenience, and of course there are the pocketed hillwalkers designed to be worn without a sporran.

Having worn the kilt all my life, and I'm now nearly seventy: whilst there is always an element of chance when wearing such a garment-the reality is that hardly anyone is the least bit interested, or will be looking your way, so why worry?

Such problems as suggested in an earlier mail, are mainly in the mind of people who are either new to the kilt, or only wear it rarely. Exacerbated by the kilt wearers who get all excited by what they refer to 'as the question', and in fact feed the curiosity in respect of what should be an entirely personal decision.

I've found that if I just rip a nice fart right as I start to climb the stairs nobody gets close enough to even try to peek.

I think this is a math question. Given the crotch of the kilted person is at a top of the triangle, following the line of the kilt to the eyes of the gawker being at the base of the triangle. The gawker would have to be almost directly under you or a number of steps behind. As mentioned before it's dark under a kilt! The risk of being exposed is minimal. Now a circular staircase is a little different! Much like a ladder you are directly under or over a person.

We Americans are too paranoid about this sort of thing. Europe has a more mature attitude. If they're desperate enough to be looking...let em.

Well, that's one Aggie who speaks with wisdom.

Actually, what he says is all too true. We are a rather prudish and paranoid bunch over on this side of The Pond.

    Keep the faith, Lads!

Agreed!!! My attitude is "it aint that different from anything you have seen before so whats the worry". Plus its all been seen by far more people that I can possibly count so its not a big deal to me... if thats the best way someone can get a thrill, they need to get a bit more excitemenmt in thier life!
    ITS A KILT, G** D*** IT!
