Ok I think I get it now...
I just took possession of my first 8 yard, hand sewn, made to measure, 16oz wool tank in the Isle of Skye tartan. My kiltmaker perfers to remain nameless to maintain their "amateur" status but I'll give you a hint - they're a member of this board...
This kilt is amazing - it fits like a glove. The hang and swing are well... impossible to describe. Now - I think - I finally understand what the big deal is about a handsewn wool tank. I own 2 SWK standards and one (soon to be two) USAK Semi-Traditionals and they are all great kilts. I consider each of them to be excellent value for the money - but oh my... this tank is a wonderful thing.
I know I'm gushing but I just can't help it - color me VERY happy

Phil,
Beautiful tartan and great accessories combined with the outdoor setting make for a super picture.
I have been considering having a kilt made in the tartan for myself; any more hints as to the identity of the maker?

That is outstanding...damn sharp!
And I respect your keeping the maker confidential...a promise is a promise.

beautiful kilt
Phil,
Great looking kilt and beautiful tartan! You ought to be very proud. Isle of Skye tartan, huh? Was it hard to come by? How'd you get the fabric? Did you kiltmaker get it or did you have to procure it for yourself and sent it to him/her?
Thanks for sharing these great photos.

I ordered the fabric - its Lochcarron Mills 16oz Strome - its available through several US vendors. Once I got the fabric, it was off to the kiltmaker for them to work their magic.
