Kilt wearers in Southwestern Maine?
I'm headed to that part of the world in August. Reading a couple of the kilt night threads has peaked some interest. Any fllow kilt wearers near Kittery? Any pubs or the like where kilt nights are held?

Close
Welcome aboard,
There is a growing population of kilted gents in the Boston Area.
which is just south by about 60 miles and pretty easy by highway. there might be a few folks on the north shore of Boston. If i drew a circle of their locations an included Kittery Area there certainly would be a few good places to gather in the middle.

As the time gets closer, I will certainly look into this more heavily. I'll be rolling into the area on house hunting leave in early June. I'll be leaving my family behind in Kittery as I come back to Hawaii. My sub departs for Maine, with an arrival sometime in August.

Welcome to Maine!
Yes, there are a few of us with chilly knees around these parts. Between the Boston area, southern New Hampshire and the Greater Portland area (about 50 miles up the coast from Kittery.)
I saw a posting today about a Kilt Night in Boston, but haven't read it. If enough of us up this way get together, we might try for a Kilt Night in Portland. Gritty McDuff's (in the Portland Old Port) might be open to buying the first pint of any guy in kilts!
Keep us posted on this board of your whereabouts. Oh, the guys from Boston are welcome to drive up, as well Maybe a Kilt Night with beer and lobster would make for a fun summer evening somewhere in the area.
Welcome!

Blazn,
Welcome to New England, and welcome to Xmarks. I'm a relatively new member here, only being owned by a kilt for two weeks now. I'm in Boston, and it seems like there might be a kilt scene developing here. I doubt you'll have any difficulty wearing a kilt in Maine. As things develope here in Boston you are always welcome if you feel like making the trip. I'll keep my eyes open for any events held up north. I often travel to Maine and NH, so why not do it for a kilt event.

This will actually be my second stint in New England. As you have guessed, I'm in the Navy. If you know anything about New England, you know "Rotten" Groton, CT is the "Submarine Capitol of the World." I did a 5 year tour there on my first sub. Came to Hawaii in '01 for shore duty. Got chained here when I went to my second boat for a two year stint (totalling 5 years in Hawaii). Then I found out that the sub I'm on now was headed to Portsmouth, NH, for a year. I saw that as a chance off this island, so I jumped on it. In two years, I'm hoping to get assigned to a spot in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Anyway... I would definately like to get together with some fashionably like-minded gents. Having a pint or two and some decent grinds would be great!
All this talk of pubs raises a question...
I have to admit, I'm not at all fond of beer. I am rather fond of hard cider, however. Having been to Scotland, I came to the realization that a real pub as at least two ciders on tap (the two biggies in Scotland were Scrumpy Jack and Strongbow). So... are there any real pubs anywhere near Kittery?

Certainly there are plenty.
The coat of Arms in Portsmouth is well liked

There is also The English pub, near by.
Portsmouth NH is one of the funnest pub crawl locations on the coast...
I'm heading up there next weekend for a big kayak show. I'll def. be visiting a few of these places kilted.
