    Early Arrival of New Kilt

The post lady rang the doorbell at 8am this morning. Not one but two jiffy bags. The first contained a kilt belt which I'd bought on e-bay from Edgesoftime and had been expecting. This belt is fully adjustable with a velcro rather than stud fastening. But the second parcel was unexpected and turned out to be the Dark Island 13 oz 5 yarder which I had ordered from Scotweb. When I placed my order at the end of February they had stated 6th April as the earliest dispatch date and as I had not paid extra for express delivery, I wasn't expecting to see it till mid April at earliest. First time I've ordered a made to measure garment over the internet, so I was worried lest I had got the measurements wrong, but my local kiltmaker will only make full 8 yards kilts, so didn't have much option. However the kilt is a perfect fit. Great quality of material, though at £220 for just 5 yards of material it ought to be. Tried the new kilt and belt in front of the mirror. Can't wait to wear it outside and get some pictures, if the rain would stop.

Maybe thats not such a bad price for a custom kilt. That's about 44 gbp per yard of finished kilt. Burnetts and Struth in Canada are charging 350 - 400 gbp for a custom 8 yard which is what?... about 45 gbp per yard of finished kilt. I paid the equivalent of 43 gbp per yard for my last custom kilt which was over a year ago. So it doesn't look like you overpaid.

    cessna152towser,

    Congrats on the new kilt!

Could you please provide an informal evaluation of your new kilt and the Dark Island tartan after you have worn it a few days.

I have to remember both of these purveyors. I need a real kilt belt. I've been using some 2" wide belt with a skull and cross bones buckle which I picked up at Hot Topic for use with a Punisher costume last Halloween. And I'm curious what this Dark Island tartan looks like.

I CAN tell you about rain. In an almost biblical sense... it has rained, here in Hawaii, EVERY DAY for the last 42 days. And our area has been under flood warning/watch for about 30 days now.
