    Edinburgh Kilt Walk

I took part in the inaugural Edinburgh Kilt Walk today, a charity event to raise money for Edinburgh's homeless. There were about a hundred or so participants, many families, father and children in kilts, so probably around 50 kilted men taking part. Kilted stewards on the street corners with their charity collection cans keeping us on the right route. Quite a few of the participants were from my home town of Hawick, hardly surprising since the band, Scocha, who were playing at the event are from Hawick, and the Hawick tartan was worn by some of the walkers though the band all performed in the West Princes Gardens band stand wearing their black kilts. A few other walkers in black kilts like mine, but mostly tartans One of the guys from Hawick said it was the first time he'd worn a kilt, which he'd borrowed, and he wasn't keen to hand it back, so we may have another convert. Each participant received a worthwhile goodie bag at the end, including a woollly hat, a large Saltire flag, Scotland the Best Small Country in the World DVD, a new 21st Century Kilts kilt pin etc. etc.

    ATTENTION NEW YORK X-MARKERS
The band are now heading for New York where they will be playing during Tartan Week until next Saturday April 8th - for venues see the "gig guide" on their website.

Good for you. I would certainly have joined in, had I been up in Edinburgh, but it was too far to travel for just that event - and I couldn't have cancelled any of my hospital appointments at the moment. I'm sure there was a good atmosphere.

Thanks so much for the Scocha link - what a band! I've GOT to see them sometime, and I've already sent off for one of their albums!! How great to see all four of the lads sporting the Saltire tartan kilts we were talking about here not so long ago!

I urge everyone to go to the Scocha website and watch the seven-minute video - it's brilliant!

I would have thought more than 50 would have showed up. Hopefully, the event will grow.

Sounds like a great idea & good for you to participate!

How long of a walk was it?

Count me in as one of the new Scocha fans! I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of their 2 CDs I've ordered.

I was surprised to read about the Scotsman wearing a kilt for the first time???!!! How old was this guy?

The guy who said he was kilted for the first time was aged about 40 and had his wife and two young kids with him. She said he had even refused to wear a kilt for his wedding.
