Thanks guys. I don't know about the cuff buttons yet. I'm not sure how it will look to have the buttons surface applied with no real "guantlett" cuff or "flap" to give reason for the buttons to be there. From a distance it would look fine but up close I wonder if people would wonder why the buttons are on the front of the sleeve. I haven't put the epauletts on yet either. I may wait on these last details and see what happens.

I put three pewter buttons along the BACK of the sleeve, where a sportcoat would have buttons, and didn't bother with epaulettes. I mean, when am I gonna wear a fly plaid?

I've been considering that as well Alan. You're happy with that look? I've got the buttons sitting there waiting, so I may just do that. There is a place in Loganville where you can buy a full tux for $50, so I had considered going and buying a tux or jacket and cutting it up to make a faux cuff...but that gets into a lot of time I don't have.
I agree the jacket looks pretty darn good without the eppauletts, so it's probably not worth the effort and $. Those who don't know any better won't care and those who do know better will know it is a modified Eton jacket
I'm just stoked that the casual kilt will work with it!

I notice that most of the pics around with guys wearing PC's don't have them with a fly plaid, anyway. Pipers wear plaids, and I suppose if I went to a Saint Andrews event I might want one, but to the symphony or other formal events that I got to, the plaid would just be a hassle.
I really like the military mess jacket look with a kilt, actually. the Eton jacket is, basically that same look.

Cavscout,
Forget the epaulettes and other buttons. Your jacket and vest look great just the way they are now. All you really need is a dress sporran to complete the look.
For an inexpensive dress sporran, I suggest item SPB04 located on this page:

It looks like you have done a great job on the jacket. I am sur eit will go over very well at your event.
As for fly plaids, I thought it had been commented on here, that you would rarely, if ever, find anyone in Scotland actually wearing one as often as us in North America do. I think they look really neat for extremely formal (wedding), but I also think they are very over the top and bordering costume status. Just my 2 bits.
You can also check out these guys for cheap sporrans http://pennys.ca/purses.php

Eton jacket...
I have a friend who modified an Eton jacket; he didn't add any silver buttons, but black covered ones, and wears it when he doesn't want to wear his PC jacket for black tie functions. It is very similar, as others have already mentioned, to a "mess dress" jacket.
Fly plaids: I wore one with my old Modern Gunn kilt at my wedding in 2002, and to a couple of Burns Suppers, but really, they're more trouble than their worth. You can get them caught in a myraid of things -- chairs being the number one -- and when I ordered my Cumming kilt, I didn't bother to order a matching plaid, just because I like to keep the PC simple.
