My Stillwater Saffron kilt arrived today, the length is about perfect for me, it could be a half-inch shorter to fit my tastes (like to wear 'em at the top of the knee cap) but close enough.

Problem is, and I guess I should be pleased in some way, it's too big around the middle. With the straps at their tightest, it's fits almost perfectly and I still have my "winter coat." A few weeks of getting outside and it will be too big. Odd, my Utilikilt(s) is(are) a 37" at just a hair too tight where I wear my jeans and the Stillwater is a 38" up around my slightly "puffy" mid-section.

So now I get to wait while it goes back and wait more while the 36" ships.

Poor me.

But it is a nice looking kilt. For the price, I was not expecting the quality. And, quite frankly, I'm shocked about the length being right. I'm 5'9" on a good day and almost ever pair of pants I buy is too long. Must be the new math.

Sorry to hear that the first one didn't fit. Did you by any chance get any pics of the first one? I would really like to see the effect of the "shadow" tartan.

I've had the same experience with Stillwaters. I love the kilts but I find that the same while a 38" or a 39" waist works perfectly in my other kilts, I have to order the 36" for the SWK to get the same fit. It's really weird.

The measurements on Stillwaters are with the straps at their tightest. I believe most kilts are measured at the center hole in the strap to allow some adjustment in either direction.

I unfortunately did not, however, it might be a bit difficult to get a decent picture. From a few feet away, it's pretty much undetectable. The "tartan" is made of slight variations texture. When I get a replacement, I will try to post some pictures to show it.

The color is closest to carmel duck, or perhaps pumpkin. It's a light to mid weight wool I would say, but I've nowhere near enough experience to guess a weight.

I'm not sure how one would dress it up to formal, it would most likely end up looking like wearing carhartt work pants with a tuxedo, so I plan on wearing it as a casual kilt.

I think it looks best with a black belt and sporran, so I will need to go ahead and buy a casual black sporran, and some black leather boots, and some new kilt hose, and a black kilt belt, and, and, and...

That's an easy one. Just add black hose and shoes, a black dress shirt, and a PC or argyl. Alot of Irish pipe bands wear the saffron and look great.

That's an easy one. Just add black hose and shoes, a black dress shirt, and a PC or argyl. Alot of Irish pipe bands wear the saffron and look great.

I'm sure you're right, I'd just have to see it to "see it." However, casual works better for me. I dress casually pretty much 365 days a year. I wear a suit maybe 5 times a year, and dress truly formal once or twice.

Although if I get the full formal outfit, I'll be looking pretty hard to up that number.
