Good luck, be safe, have fun

I sure envy you the opportunity to do the entire PCT on a through-hike. I've done parts of the Tahoe-Yosemite Trail, and hiked the John Muir Trail twice(once a couple years ago and once thirty years earlier.)

I'll check in on your progress periodically and determine the feasibility of meeting up with you, however briefly, somewhere between Yosemite and Lake Tahoe. Of course, that's only if it can be before June 10th or after June 25th, because those two weeks I'll be cycling solo from Lexington, KY to Baltimore, MD via Virginia.

Andrew, I'll be watching your web site for updates. I'm astounded by people like you who are driven to do this kind of hiking. Mountain climbing never did make much sense to me but an epic hike like this really has appeal even though I don't imagine I'll ever do it myself. It's even more interesting since you're almost walking through my back yard. Emil Kreofsky, the guy who founded the motorcycle shop I work at, once rode a Harley down the Pacific Crest Trail. I think it was during construction or shortly thereafter. We have clippings out of the Oregonian tracking his exploits. Good luck, I'll be rooting for you.

Thanks for all the well-wishes. In no particular order:

I do plan on getting to the summit of Whitney. While I've been there before, it's only a 17-mile round-trip off the PCT, so I'll bag that while I'm there.

I'll probably be through Yosemite-Tahoe later than 25 June. I won't enter the Sierras any earlier than the 15th of June, and since it's such a heavy snow year I'll probably push it back even further than that, so my Kennedy Meadows departure date will probably be at least 20 June.

Although a motorcycle trip of the PCT sounds like a lot of fun, it's not legal nowadays - the trail is only designated for hikers and pack stock; no wheeled vehicles allowed.

    Thumbs up

Good luck man, it's amazing to me how some people manages to make their dreams true!,... congrats for such a determination!

As somebody said before, it's impossible at the moment for me as well to find soo much time to make a long hike, but maybe in a future I'll find the time to cover walking the millennary Santiago's way from the french border to Galicia. It's more or less a month's walk, although the different roads cross all over europe. For everybody who could be interested, here's a link:

if everybody thinks about it for next year's summer,... I'll be pleased to know! ;)

    ¡Salud!

I'd love to hike the Camino someday...having lived south of Toulouse for several months I'd even have some people to stay with at the beginning of the trip.

As a side note, my mother told me a few months ago that she's stopped worrying about "what I'm going to do with my life." She realised that I'm doing it. Yes, it's not what everyone is told they "should do," but at the end of it all I won't be able to say that I didn't pursue my dreams.

All right, I'm moving all my stuff into storage tomorrow, so this is where I sign off the forum. I'll try to post some updates as I go along for the next five months, but everyone's welcome to follow along in my journal and photos.

I hope all is going well on your journey up the PCT. I helped build a secion of that trail in northern Washington state about 28 years ago. I'll be thinking of you when your near the north Cascades!
