    Thumbs up

Outstanding young man. Learn as much about your family history now as you can. In later years your sources will no longer be available, grandparents, aunts, uncles. Look foward to wearing your kilt and wearing correctly with pride. I too, wish I had know when I was your age....about 42 years ago

You won't want to get them sewn fully, especially if it is 100% wool. Sewing the pleats will change how it moves, and wool will hold a pleat without pressing a good long time.

Ham, Barb, Matt ( et. al.): any more input on sewing pleats?

That is just awesome that you can do that. Maybe a graduation picture will be in order. Not only smart, but you will look nice too.

This is an interesting description of your kilt. Are we to understand that the belt will hold it on, instead of straps? and that no portion of the pleats will be sewn down - until later? That sounds very much like the bottom half of a "great kilt."
