    The Question

Talked to my sister this morning about a wedding we both plan on attending. I informed her that I intended on being kilted. She thought it was great and said she couldn't wait to see me. She then relays this info to my mother on the other end and puts her on the phone. My mom asked me what I was going to be wearing under the kilt. Long silence. I get the question from women all the time, but my own mom! I didn't tell her.

I would just tell her "Same as always.." and move on.

Just assure her that whatever is under the kilt will be clean, you know, in case you're in an accident.

Last week my sister (of all people!) was bugging me with "the question" and I answered her with this:

    "modesty is the best policy"

Which silenced (and confused) her for a bit. I think it's a great phrase. It answers nothing but suggests that we kilted gents, regardless of what is worn or not worn under the kilt, are gentlemen.

    Mothers...what can I tell you.

Here are some possible responses. Take them with a grain of salt.

    1 - "You mean you don't know?"
    2 - "Moooooooom!"
3 - "My shoes and socks! What kind of son did you think you raised?"
4 - "Why isn't my kilt long enough?!"

This one usually puts an end to it (with apologies)

"Depends on how much lipstick (wife's name) is wearing." (let her think about it a sec and say
    "Any other questions?"

The shoes and socks comeback is a favorite of mine, but the "What kind of son do you think you raised" really does it!

My mom asked and she knows...

Last saturday we took her out for lunch and when the waitresses (always those waitresses!) giggled behind my back my mom adressed them...

Mom: "no...he's not wearing anything underneath his kilt!" (all could hear...)
    Waitresses: " "
My wife: "and he's not for sale!"
    Waitresses...and half the restaurant: " "
    Me: " "

    Family!...arghhhhh!!!!!!!
