I have never worn cowboy boots in my life, not even as a child. But I did wear a "Montana Peak" slouch hat one time with a kilt when discussing the Scots/Irish connections on traditional cowboy culture.

Personally, there's nothing wrong with a slouch hat, INMHO, in hot weather -- the Highlanders in the South African (Boer) War did it. It just makes sense, as you pointed out.

I was really attempting to point out the aforementioned connections more than anything else.
