ONe thing I love about this gang is that so many of us just set out and try new stuff...making sporrans, making sgian dubhs, making kilts and we share in information with the board.
It really makes X Marks a fantastic and creative place. GOOD ON YA for doing this and showing us how it's going.

hardware
Ozmeath,
what do you plan on doing with the old briefcase hardware? I suspect you're gonna incorporate that silver clasp from the other thread to use on this sporran. So will you keep that old hardware for another project?

Cloves, you were right in that I'm going to use the clasp I made. The original sporran that I was going to refurbish was too cheap and not justifiable for all the effort I'd put into the clasp.
The old satchel hardware has made all the way to the bin! It's a bit dodgy and trashed and I'm not about to make a satchet. Already have another one anyway. I did think about keeping the bits but they really didn't seem worth it. always feel a bit guilty throwing things like that away, but the amount of stuff I've collected....!

But wait! There's more!
Haven't put the awl thru myself yet...Here's the inside of front piece and gusset stitched:

and the sexy outsde front piece:

Belt loops stitched (glad there hidden on the back really. )and the start of the final gusset stitching. Now this bit is getting tricky to keep even. Any hints folks?Freelander? It's no bin bag but it'll have to do!

That's a going to be a good looking sporran, when it's done. So when are you taking orders?

yes, when are you going to start taking orders for those? I think a good solid black with red leather wings ( the overlays you made on the sides) would look really sharp...

BD I don't know about that! Don't know how those sporran makers can turn a coin when they sell at those prices. Hat's off to 'em I say. One can only hope you get a bit speedier at that caper.

Ozmeath,
Nice job! You're getting a very clean, uniform turn over detail with the side walls of the sporran where it meets the front, not the easiest thing to do. Keep the photos coming, please!

Definately keep us posted. That way I can follow along. I plan to tackle this very same project when I get to Maine. Hopefully, it won't be too hard to find some sort of leather supply. Maybe even some moose hide!
