    There is an alternative ( especially for a first kilt ). There are a few different tartans "tanks" on E-bay for about $50. Tartan hiker and I have both partaken of these ( mine should be delivered today or tomorrow). These would be great for a first kilt as they are of decent quality and far less costly than most kilts.

    I have a Ramsay USA Kilt, their off-the-rack-model. In fact I'm wearing it as I write this and it's great.
