NPR's Morning Edition, this morning - it was one of the odd news bits they have on the half hour. Given that it was NPR, I would hope someone verified the facts before airing it.

Basically many of a town's people will to be out of town watching their rugby team play in another town. This is to happen on the same day the census is taken. If this actually happens, the town will be found to have far fewer residents than actually live there, and can potentially loose a good portion of any support from the government that is based on town population.
overall it is not a good thing.

Just how is this census conducted? In Canada, they mail out forms to fill. I thought they did it the same way there.

The Census taker goes to each pub and takes inventory of the Scotch in the morning. He then returns the next day, and counts one person for every 5 ounces of Scotch that was consumed. If there is a game ( as there is in this case), He counts one person for every seven ounces if the favored team wins and one person for every 10 ounces if the favored team looses.
Far more accurate than counting people in houses, as more often than not there are several who stumbled into the shed, down the wrong road or into the woods trying to get home when the pub closed.

Don't write things like that at 1 AM when I'm sleep-deprived!
