Hhmm I'm killing time this weekend in South Carolina. I'm threatened with Altanta but might try and convince to do Asheville. Any music to going on to help the cause?

Hmm... On the one hand I'd love to be there.
On the other hand, I've got class the next morning, and I still have a history report on Robert the Bruce (Who else) that I need to write by Friday. And unfortunately finding primary sources for him is tough. I'm going to need to ransack the UNC-A library I think.

I'll be in Franklin on April 28 and 29 to visit Matt at the Tartans Museum and order a kilt. My plan for the trip home is to head back through Ashville and hit the Blue Ridge Parkway north to Roanoke, then take US 460 home to Amelia County Va. Since the price of gas is going through the roof again, This and a couple of trips to festivals will be my vacation this year. Might be a chance to meet some of you western NC guys for lunch or something.

Not a primary source per se, but filled with primary sources about him, is Alan Young's excellent book, "Robert the Bruce's Rivals: The Comyns 1212-1314" which gives a more accurate view of Bruce's feud with the Comyn faction for the throne -- but be forewarned -- Bruce is no mythological hero in this one.

JerMc, be aware that the Parkway is closed beyond Mount Mitchell resulting in a fairly substantial detour. you'll have to get off in Asheville and take I-40 for a ways to get around it. Call the Parkway info line for the details on the northern extent of the closure as I'm not too sure about it right now.
Mithral, welcome to Xmarks! It's great to see another Ashevillian here, and I'm awfully glad that I'm not the only one to wear the kilt at AB Tech! I teach there every Monday and Wednesday evening.
I've got school the next day too. I usualy pack it in around 9:00, so that shouldn't be a problem for a young sprout like yourself.
Randy, there is a Celtic jam session at the pub every Sunday evening (5-9 or so) that is well worth attending. Usually lots of very talented local musicians attend. That's why I only go on Sundays...the rest of the week is pretty well bluegrass and southern rock.
Freedomlover...If your truck is still on the fritz I'll come get you....no, wait, gas is $3.00 a gallon...I'll just print your avatar and set it on the bar.

It is. I have to put in a water pump, timing belt, front seal and new belts and hoses. I could drive my work van, but a 8 miles to the gallon I don't think so. Perhaps the wife will lend me her car this Sunday.

Freedomlover, I hope your wife lets you borrow the wheels! I'll probably be there this Sunday.
Davedove, Yes, we've given Bill the address and the "you gotta join the group" speech. The "Big Dave" in the photo is not the same one that posts here with that handle. He just got his first kilt (USAK; Gunn tartan) and last night was I believe his second time kilted in public. It looks like he's thoroughly hooked, so I expect he'll join the board soon. Randy takes full blame for all of that.
Bill was dining with another couple and it looks like the wife will be working on her husband to go kilted, so in the final analysis we may have scored a triple!
