The traditional rule is a kilt belt should not be worn with a vest (waistcoat) regardless of which jacket you wear. Some in the US ignore this rule. A member of this forum mentioned using a dirk belt, which I hadn't heard of before. I don't really know what a dirk belt is, but I suppose it is thinner and easier to hide under a vest than a traditional kilt belt.
