    I found this link describing Scottish military dress. Looks to me that a dirk belt is similar to a kilt belt, only that it was a few extra leather straps to attach to the dirk scabbard.

    I always understood that the term dirk belt was another name for a kilt belt (same as in Kilted KT's avatar), because that is where the dirk is hung from.

    I don't mean to step on anyones toes here but let's use some common sense about this problem. I don't wear a dirk with an Argyle, I wear it with the PC. If I wear it with the PC I wear my kilt belt to suspend the dirk frog. If you're going to wear a dirk with the PC you simply wear the dirk with the PC and you suspend it from the kilt belt. If there is reason to wear the belt with a PC and vest what better reason than to suspend the dirk?

    And if you wear your belt high enough it will be hidden by your vest anyway!
